Exceptions to Academic Policy

All students are required to adhere to the academic policies outlined in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences Academic Catalogue. Exceptions to academic policy are rarely granted. All exceptions to academic policy requests are reviewed by the KSAS Policy Exceptions Committee.

The committee will consider exceptional student circumstances and the associated consequences with equity, precedent, and the record-keeping requirements of the school in mind. Students are required to provide a detailed explanation of events or conditions warranting an exception to academic policy.

Documentation

Certain types of exception requests require supporting documentation. For example, all requests to add, drop, withdraw from classes and/or change customized academic learning credits require documentation from the faculty.

Submitting an Exception Request

To request an exception to academic policy, complete this Exception to Academic Policy Request form.

The KSAS Policy Exceptions Committee will meet once per week to review requests and will respond to student requests via email. Should you have any questions or concerns about your request, please email KSASExceptionRequest@jhu.edu.

The KSAS Policy Exceptions Committee will not meet the week of fall recess. The Committee will resume the weekly meeting on Thursday, November 30th, 2023.
